Unofficial "guides" or helpers who approach near major sites, offering directions or information before requesting payment, are common — politely declining and sticking with your official guide, or simply saying no firmly and walking on, handles this without any real difficulty.
Camel and horse rides
At the pyramids and other sites, unsolicited camel or horse rides are sometimes offered with an unclear price upfront, followed by a much higher demand afterward. Agreeing on a clear price before accepting any ride — or simply booking through your tour operator instead — avoids this entirely.
Souvenir shops
Overpriced souvenir shops that guides sometimes steer independent travelers toward, in exchange for a commission, are a minor, low-stakes version of the same pattern — comparing prices at a couple of shops and remembering that walking away is always an option covers most of it, similar to general bargaining norms (see Is Bargaining Expected When Shopping in Egypt?). None of this is common enough to be alarming; it's simply worth a little calm awareness.
